---this is a nice review.---star trek---
Up until recently, it was pretty safe to say that Star Trek was a dying franchise rapidly approaching deep-space limbo. If Star Trek: Nemesis (2002) was almost universally panned by Trekkies, imagine how many more brickbats the movie received from those who weren't fans to begin with. A change of crew was in order and the man for the job? J.J Abrams, a director/producer/writer who has proven himself to be equally adept at handling television (Lost, Alias) and film (Cloverfield, Mission: Impossible III). His vision is realised in this sleek, sexy and epic reboot - a concerted move to win over a younger and hipper demographic. Star Trek is a visceral romp through space that reignites the franchise's waning star and heralds the coming of the summer blockbuster season. Call it whatever you like, prequel, re-imagining or prologue, but Abrams has taken some liberties with the original canon storyline that will have hardcore Trekkies screaming bloody murder. The rest of the regular movie-going population though, will appreciate its accessibility and witty dialogue without having to drown in a sea of Klingon jargon. The movie fashions an alternate universe that brings us up close with the fresh-faced crew and their pivotal maiden voyage on board the gleaming USS Enterprise. Time travel is at play here, and resident baddie Nero (who helms the bad-ass-looking Romulan ship Narada) causes the Starfleet much grief with his determination to exact vengeance at whatever the cost. Black holes, red matter and spoilers aside, the energy, action and warp-speed pacing will leave you little time to ponder the intricacies of plot loopholes and inconsistencies.Early sequences focus on the formative years of James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) and half-human, half-Vulcan Spock (Zachary Quinto), giving us an insight into their behaviour and motivations to come. Chris Pine affects a confident, cocky swagger as Kirk, and manages to come across as more charming than obnoxious. An adrenaline junkie born literally in the heat of battle, Kirk loves the ladies as much as he loves being on the edge of danger. His brash hot-headedness is the perfect foil for Spock's self-imposed rigidity, and the verbal sparring between the two is a delight to watch. Zachary Quinto is a dead ringer for Nimoy as Spock, and nails his role with a measured approach to his inner conflict between logic and emotion. Kirk and Spock may be the character heavyweights in Star Trek, but the rest of the Enterprise crew also have their moments of pure cinema gold. Sulu (John Cho) and Scotty (Simon Pegg) never miss a beat with their impeccable comedic timing. Karl Urban is faultless as straight-talking Leonard "Bones" McCoy, Zoe Saldana is the strong female presence as Uhura and Anton Yelchin milks the most laughs with his endearing enthusiasm and thick Russian accent as Chekov. Coupled with memorable moments (can we get a resounding "Aye" to Leonard Nimoy's cameo), references (spot the Tribble) and lines ("Set phasers to stun") that embody the original series, Abrams has quite possibly hit on the formula to ensure Star Trek's longevity at the box office and beyond. Live long and prosper!

http://www.mtvasia.com/Music/greenday: 5 years and 13 million American Idiot album sales later, Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool return with 21st Century Breakdown, an all too familiar, blatant punk assault of chaos, protest and revolution.
http://www.mtvasia.com/Review/CD/C20090611001806.htmltaylor swift (i wished i had one like that for lautner) : When you're 11 and want a record deal, what most kids would do is whine about it to their parents, get a cookie and move on to their next dream. Not country pop darling, Taylor Swift though! With sheer conviction about what she wants to do for the rest of her life, she moved her entire family to Nashville, home of all the big Country stars to pursue that dream. Fast forward to today, now 19, Swift is not only an accomplished singer-songwriter but one with 2 albums, a bunch of awards and a whole load of nominations to her name. With her sophomore album, appropriately titled, Fearless, (also her first international release) Taylor Swift gives us a taste of why her name is one of the most talked about ones these days (apart from a certain Jonas saga). Title track, "Fearless" starts off simple with signature country twangs and may sound like any other pop song but what keeps you tuned on is not only Swift's rich vocals, but also the unique, story-telling style of lyric writing she's oh so well known for. Moving down the list, tracks like "Love Story" and "You're Not Sorry" (featured on an episode of CSI where Miss Swift is a guest star) steers towards mainstream country pop with its musical arrangement. If you're looking for something to tap your feet or jam to, you might find the answer in "You Belong With Me" and "Should've Said No" which features heavier instrumental works and choruses that echoes the minds of the many tween girls out there. But how can anyone forget the song that propelled this young songstress to fame? "Teardrops On My Guitar" is a simple pop tune with true to the heart lyrics about a heartbreaking tale of liking a guy and not having your feelings reciprocated. And no, it's not some anonymous guy - with this lady, what you hear is what you get.The album does have its low moments in the middle though, when tracks just pass you by but that doesn't last for long, thanks to her witty choice of words. With honest lines, catchy beats and innocent guitar strums, Fearless lives up to its name and might very well be the motto for Taylor Swift herself, for at her tender age, she shows no fear in writing what she believes in.
